MARKETING - Christopher Cushman Design

In 1986 my career got a massive leg up thanks to a major promotion from GM's Luxury Vehicle Group (BOC) to take on the Art Director position with GM Military Vehicles Operation (MVO) and work with an amazing mentor Steven Napier who shoved me so far up the latter it made my head spin... He had the utmost confidence in my abilities when he took me over to the design staff group and said Christopher has some logo ideas for our new division. The MVO Logo was an easy sell but the senior brand designers were adamant about having 4 stars instead of 3 in the GM Defence Logo. The General in this General Motors Division would be the highest rank. Well Steve knew why I had made it three and threw me further out on the limb of my own making... "The American Government, The American People were the highest rank and we wanted to be one of the lead suppliers to them... They are in charge..." A few minutes later we walked out a three star logo in hand and I all of 26 had all but soiled my pants... This job illustrated to me that all things are possible.
